Friday morning I set my alarm for 4:45am because I had to be in Minneapolis by 8:30 for state football. While driving down highway 7 in the pitch dark I was wide awake and ready to tackle the day.

When I was heading out of Madison around 5:30 Friday morning a few things crossed my mind. I thought, I am such a morning person. I actually enjoy getting up early. It wouldn’t seem right to me to stay in bed until 8 or 9 am. You may ask what is early? To me 5-5:30am is a good time to get out of bed to start the day. I do have my alarm set, but it’s very rare that I wake up to it. Have I always been like this? I would say yes I have always been a morning person. I think it’s the best time of the day.

I know that we are all different. My wife is a night owl and not a morning person. However, during the school year her alarm is set for 5:30. It’s a struggle for her some mornings to get out of bed at that time, but she does it. We both spend time doing devotions in the morning, reading our Bible and praying. I enjoy listening to some Christian podcasts in the morning. I have a few favorites like Greg Laurie. Spending time with the Lord in the morning is very important to the both of us. It sets the tone for the day. I could sit in my favorite chair all day and do that because I enjoy it so much. But I have this thing called a job I need to be at.

Google morning or night person and read all the information about it. I did that Saturday still thinking about why am I a morning person and why is my wife such a night owl. I sat in my chair watching football and reading all about being a morning person Saturday evening. It was very interesting. Questions such as, is it healthy to be a night owl? Why is it better to be a night owl? Are morning people more healthy? Are morning people more successful? I think it is a very interesting subject why some are morning people and some not? After doing my research, I decided to Google, Can I be both a morning person and a night person? I think I could be. However I do my best work in the morning. My schedule of getting up and going to bed is usually the same time every day. I wake up around 5:30 and I go to bed around 11pm. I know some morning people go to bed really early in the evening like 7 or 8pm. I don’t think I could do that. So does that make me both a morning person and a night owl. My wife stays up till midnight or after some days and it’s natural for her.

I would love to hear from all of you. Which are you, an early bird or a night owl or both?
