BUMP IN THE ROAD

Back in the Game

This is a personal one today, and I appreciate you reading. It’s been a challenging week for my wife, my family, and me. From Tuesday through Friday, I was in the hospital in Madison with a partial small bowel obstruction. Not fun having a tube down your throat for a week, but I’m home now and ready to get back to covering high school sports.

If you know me, you know I’m a positive person. I always try to find the good in tough situations. So, what were the positives this week?

Lessons Learned

For one, I learned that the human body is amazing. It’s incredible how it works and how it can heal itself. I also learned that what you eat daily is super important. From now on, I’m going to be very nice to my stomach and intestines—which means I have some new eating habits to tackle. It won’t be easy, but it’s a worthwhile change.

I also learned that we have great healthcare services right here at home. I have so much respect for the nurses and the entire staff at Madison Healthcare. What they do is incredible. They all treated me like family, even the cleaning people who came into my room daily. One of them even called me a celebrity because I was in the “suite” at the end of the hall. They really made me feel welcome and lifted my spirits.

Pat, Dick and Dale, minus me! We have taken a selfie at the fair for the last 10 to 15 years and its the first time we don’t have four in the picture..

What I Missed

Even with all the positives, I have to admit that it was really hard to miss the Swift County Fair. I love sitting in the Q-92 booth and visiting with our listeners. I was heartbroken to miss being a pie judge and, most of all, our annual selfie with my friends Dale, Pat, and Dick at Ribfest. A huge thank you to Maynard for covering the fair for me.

Counting My Blessings

My family, friends, church family, and coworkers are truly the best. I have to mention one visit that completely took me by surprise and got me a little choked up. Paul, the co-owner of City Hall Bar and Grill in Minneota, stopped by with a card and gift from his staff. Paul had broken his foot and was on crutches, but he still came to visit. I am counting my blessings.

Troy and Paul

On top of everything, my wife, Roxie, and I are in the middle of a kitchen remodel and dealing with a few other things. But through it all, I choose to thank God for the blessings and for my life.

I can’t wait to be back in the gym broadcasting high school sports next week.
