I was going to blog about something else, but while watching Iowa Hawkeye phenom Caitlin Clark break the NCAA all-time scoring record today I decided to blog about her.
I will admit that I am obsessed with her story. I can’t get enough of it. What she has done for women’s basketball the last few years is incredible. She sells out arenas everywhere she goes. What is really amazing is all the records she is breaking. It’s been really fun to watch.

Iowa played the Gophers at the Barn this week and the Barn was sold out. I was surprised at how many of my social media friends were at the game on a weeknight! Moms taking their daughters, dad’s taking their daughters and friends. It was great to see. So many little girls have someone to look up to and can strive to be like her. Of course the Hawkeyes destroyed the Gophers.

This got me thinking about who I looked up to when I was around 12 years old. Harmon Killebrew of the Minnesota Twins was one that came to mind. I wanted to be a major league baseball player and hit home runs like Harmon. My dad would take us to Metropolitan Stadium and when Harmon came up to bat I remember getting so excited praying that he would hit a home run. I was fortunate enough to witness Harmon hitting home runs and one time almost caught a Harmon Killebrew home run ball. So exciting!

Kaitlin broke Pete Maravich scoring record today. I remember watching Pistol Pete growing up, he was amazing. YouTube some of his highlights, he was in a league of his own. The movie “The Pistol” tells about his career. I Googled him and found out he scored all his points in 3 years and he didn’t have the three points line. Now that is amazing. The announcer today said Pistol Pete took 40 shots a game and Kaitlin takes 19, either way that’s a lot of points for both of them.
I hope Iowa wins the national championship because the country can’t get enough of Caitlin Clark! It’s been a nice break from the Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsie love affair.
