WHY DO I BLOG?

I decided to grab another cup of coffee and sit down and write my blog on a rainy Saturday afternoon. As I sat down in my comfortable recliner and contemplated on what to blog about, I asked myself “Why do I write a blog each week?”

Before I began writing this week’s blog I looked back over the 300 blogs that I have written and was amazed at all the different subjects I have come up with. It’s really not hard each week to come up with something to write about. Sometimes funny things happen to me during the week that I enjoy writing about and sharing with all of you. I have written some very personal blogs like my heart surgery, or my love for my family and friends and other personal matters. When I started blogging I wrote two blogs a week for about 6 months and that was a little difficult to find the time to write two a week, so I cut back to writing one blog and release it on Sunday afternoon.

How did this blogging thing all start? I had two friends that kept harassing me to write a blog. I told them that nobody will read my blog. What would I write about? I told them over and over, “I am not going to start to write a blog.” I made more excuses, like I am not a writer, I hated English in high school. After months of this fun harassment going on I told them I would write a blog for a month just for you two. That way it would shut them up. I wrote my first blog on December 27th, 2017 and been blogging ever since. I really fell in love with it. Blogging each week is like therapy for me. I also realized I am writing about my life and what a great gift to give to my grandchildren when I am gone. I wish I had a blog or diary from my grandparents or great-grandparents. That way I would know what they were really like. It would tell me about their daily lives and what they were all about. That’s why I blog.

I keep blogging because so many people have commented that they read my blog and like it. Each week someone will text me, or message me on Facebook that they have had a similar experience that I had. It always amazes me when a complete stranger tells me they read my blog. After a basketball game at RTR in Tyler, Minnesota an elderly gentlemen wearing RTR apparel made his way to the press box. He asked me if I was Paul Raymo and I said yes. I thought he was going to talk to me about the game. Instead he wanted to tell me he and his wife enjoy reading my blog each week and to keep it up. I was shocked and surprised that someone I didn’t even know read my blog and liked it. That’s why I blog

On my WordPress bloggers website my blog is emailed to 3000 people around the world. I have worked with other bloggers from England, Ireland and Thailand. Other bloggers have shared my blog on their site which is a big compliment. I have learned so much from other bloggers about blogging. I am always looking to improve. My blog is shared on other social media sites. I appreciate my Facebook friends reading my blog. So, why do I blog? Because I love to.

  1. And that’s exactly it. The best reason to blog or write. Because we love the craft. Sometimes I hear reasons like ‘wanting to make side income’ and I wonder if that’s ever a feasible reason to blog. Anyway, thanks for sharing!

  2. Thanks for this. I do similar type blogging. Did it daily for about a year 7 years agoor so. I was discouraged that it didn’t have a very broad audience. Now I’ve been challenged to get back at it and ran across yours. Just doing it for me needs to bve enough. A record for my grandkids is good. I have about 30 years worth of my Grandfather’s journals. What a treasure they are. I journal every day and have a book and course about it but this is a different sort of journal. Thanks again. My blog is called Spilt Milk. My website is http://www.riverofhopeenterprises.com if you are interested.
