CHRISTMAS MOVIE TIME

It is officially the most wonderful time of year! There is something magical about the glow of the Christmas tree and the comfort of watching a classic Christmas movie. As the snow starts to fall (or the thermostat gets cranked up), I’ve been reflecting on the films that truly capture the holiday spirit for me.

Here is my definitive Top 5 Festive Favorites, counted down to the ultimate Christmas classic.

My Festive Top 5

5. A Christmas Story

4. Christmas with the Kranks

3. Elf

2. It’s a Wonderful Life

1. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

Why Holiday Movies Matter

What is it about Christmas movies? For me, it’s all about the joy and laughter. I love a movie that makes me feel good, and as you can see from my list, I have a major soft spot for holiday comedies.

Here is why these five have earned a permanent spot on my “Nice List”:

  • A Christmas Story: This one is pure nostalgia. It reminds me so much of growing up in the 60s. I remember the year my brother and I both got BB guns—thankfully, neither of us shot an eye out! It captures that “weird family” dynamic that I think we can all relate to during the holidays.
  • Christmas with the Kranks: I’ll be honest, I relate to Luther Krank a lot. Skipping the chaos for a vacation? That sounds like something I’d actually do! Since it’s my wife’s absolute favorite, it’s a staple in our house every December.
  • Elf: Two words: Will Ferrell. He is hilarious and carries the whole film. While some parts are a bit too silly for me, I lose it every single time during the “Call me elf one more time!” scene. “He really is an angry elf!”
  • It’s a Wonderful Life: A true masterpiece. The writing is superb, and Jimmy Stewart is incredible. I’ve always loved the character of Clarence; it often makes me wonder what my own guardian angel thinks of me.
  • Christmas Vacation: The undisputed heavyweight champion. I’ve seen it dozens of times, yet I still find myself shouting the lines and belly-laughing at the Griswolds. It never gets old, and the characters are legendary.

Honorable Mentions & “Grinch” Takes

I also have to give a shout-out to A Charlie Brown Christmas just for the music and The Family Man (and yes, it definitely counts as a Christmas movie!).

However, you won’t find me watching Home Alone or Bad Santa. They just don’t jingle my bells—terrible movies, if you ask me!

Now, I want to hear from you! What are the holiday movies you can’t live without, and what makes them special to you? Whether they make you cry or keep you laughing, ’tis the season to share the cheer.

Merry Christmas to all!
