Football and Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving and football—for me, it truly is the best time of the year.
For the last five years, I’ve had the privilege of broadcasting the Minnesota Class A State Football Championship game from US Bank Stadium, all thanks to the incredible run of the Minneota Vikings. Every year has been a huge thrill and an experience I will always cherish.

My passion for the gridiron extends far beyond the high school level. I’m a dedicated Gopher football fan, through thick and thin. I also follow South Dakota State and North Dakota State football religiously. And now, thanks to former Dawson-Boyd Blackjack Zach Durfee playing for the University of Washington, you can find me cheering on the Huskies as well!
On any given Saturday afternoon in the fall, you’ll find me glued to the TV, watching multiple college games. Then on Sunday, it’s all about the Minnesota Vikings and soaking in as much NFL action as possible. Clearly, I’m very passionate about fall football.
The Favorite Holiday
What makes the fall season even more exciting is my absolute favorite holiday: Thanksgiving! You mix Thanksgiving and football together, and I’m in heaven.
Since I was a small boy (okay, maybe I’ve never been a small boy!), Thanksgiving has meant so much to me. Growing up, heading to Grandpa and Grandma’s house and getting the whole family together for the holiday created wonderful memories. Every year, our large extended family would gather to enjoy turkey and, of course, watch football. I almost forgot to mention a key family tradition: watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in the morning.

Beyond the food and the games, Thanksgiving is fundamentally about giving thanks to God for the many blessings in your life, especially the blessing of family. It’s a day for fun—filled with great food, laughter, games, reminiscing, and carrying on those precious family traditions.
So, when football and Thanksgiving finally come together, I am one happy guy.
This year was a little different due to some sickness and weather, but it remained a very meaningful and cherished holiday.
