Kona

I’ve blogged about my daughter Brianna’s dog Kona before. But, this last Saturday and Sunday was fun watching my wife Roxie and Kona bond together.

A little background, since Roxie and I have been married, which has been 48 years we have never had a dog! Even when raising four children in the house we didn’t have a dog. It’s ironic because when we were growing up our families had a number of dogs as pets. I remember a few of the dogs we had growing up like Speckles and Corky. When Roxie first moved to Madison her family had a Bassett Hound named Lightning!

I can’t really explain why we never had a dog when our kids were growing up. I don’t remember our kids ever asking for a dog. When our last child Brianna left home and Roxie and I were empty nesters, I thought it would be a great time to get a dog. However, Roxie was against it. The house was too quiet with all the kids gone. Every time I mentioned it, she said no. To be fair she had a good reason. She was working and I am never home with my job, so the dog would be home alone all day. That’s not fair to the dog. And she thought she would be the person taking care of it most of the time.

Since Seth and Brianna have gotten Kona, who is a Sheepadoodle both Roxie and I have fallen in love with this dog. Everytime Kona comes to visit us we enjoy having him around the house. He is a very smart dog, quiet, easy going and loves to play catch. This past weekend was fun watching Roxie and Kona interact with each other.

Roxie always says “I don’t hate dogs, but I don’t love dogs!” But, it’s taking a while but I think she is really warming up to Kona. Maybe it’s a good time to again ask for a dog! Roxie is retired now and home all day alone, so a dog would be a great companion for her. What do you think? Should we get a dog?
