Have I ever mentioned that broadcasting section basketball games at the RA Facility in Marshall is the best! I know I’ve blogged about that many times. Nothing beats the excitement of sitting courtside. I’m on the floor broadcasting important playoff games with the teams on each side of me and the crowd behind me making a lot of noise. It’s just the best time.
This past Saturday the Dawson-Boyd Blackjack boys basketball team advanced and will play Thursday with the winner going to state. I am so impressed with the Dawson-Boyd fans, they come to support the team in large numbers. It’s so cool to see the whole side of the RA Facility nothing but a sea of Black and Yellow! It’s completely full of screaming Dawson-Boyd fans! The Blackjack moms are pretty cool and having a lot of fun!

I showed some love to my newspaper friends this week. The other day Samantha Davis from the Marshall Independent newspaper sat next to me and I had her on as a halftime guest. She is young and a very good writer. We run into each other at games often.

Saturday I was surprised to see my friend from the Willmar Trubune Tom Elliott. Tom is my age and we have known each other for a very long time. He actually worked at the St Cloud Times for many years. He took a picture of me at state dance many years ago interviewing the Aafedt sisters and put that picture on the front page of the sports section of the Times. He couldn’t believe that a radio station was covering state dance. So, Tom was my halftime guest Saturday.

Also, Saturday the Montevideo boys basketball team won their sub section game against Morris. My son Brandon is on the coaching staff. They have a very good team, so it will be fun to watch them play in the 3AA championship game vs Jackson County Central Thursday at 5pm.

While broadcasting section games, I enjoy getting messages from friends that are listening online while on vacation. Like Jesi and her family listening in Hawaii or snowbirds listening in Arizona or Florida. It makes me smile. We always get so many people that live outside of the 92.1fm area that log onto our website and listen all around the world. We have consistent listeners in Ireland, Russia, Mexico and across the United States.

I was really disappointed we didn’t get a chance to broadcast the girls Section 3A Championship last Thursday. The boys tournament got postponed Tuesday because of weather and got rescheduled for Thursday. I can’t be in two places at once so Mitchell and I did two boys games Thursday in Montevideo. Congratulations to Coach Shaun Condon and the Maccray girls for making it to state. Brielle Janssen for the Wolverines is fun to watch, she is one of the best basketball players in the state.

I will see you at the RA Facility Thursday for two Section Championship games. It’s going to be fun and exciting.
