THINGS THAT SUPRISED ME

This past week I was surprised by a lot of things. Here are a few of them.

Monday I went to Minneota High School to drop off some Player of the Game t-shirts for some of the state champion Viking football players. To my surprise the very kind office ladies, pulled some of the players out of class. My intentions were to just leave the bag of POG shirts in the office. The office ladies said Coach Johnston left this for you and handed me a football helmet signed by everyone on the team. When I saw the helmet I got choked up a bit! I have gotten signed posters and t-shirts from teams before thanking me for covering them but never a helmet. I was humbled and very thankful. That was very nice of them to think of me.

Another surprise this week for me was on Thanksgiving. We drove to St Cloud to my son’s. We have driven to St Cloud many times over the years and I usually like to take different roads to get there. Highway 23 is finally free from construction, so we took it from Willmar to St Cloud and it’s now mostly four lanes! I set the cruise at 65 and it was a nice and easy drive from Willmar to St Cloud. That was a pleasant surprise.

The night before Thanksgiving my daughter-in-law Kristine had a accident in the kitchen. She was pulling apart two dishwasher pods that were stuck together and they exploded into her right eye. She went to urgent care and they sent her to an eye doctor. Thankfully, she is okay but it burned her right eye pretty good and so I felt sorry for her on Thanksgiving. Her eye was very swollen and it looked painful which it was. But the tough girl she is, she still went on and made a fantastic Thanksgiving meal for everyone. She loves to entertain at her house even though she was hurting. Very thankful for Kristine.

I was also surprised the day before Thanksgiving. Hawk, the manager of Fiesta City Liquor in Montevideo, always invites me over to do a live broadcast from their wine tasting event. It’s a annual event with many stations of different wines throughout the liquor store. I have seen it busy at Fiesta City Liquor before but nothing like it was Wednesday afternoon. Hawk had everyone on deck and there were a lot of people shopping the whole time I was there.

My biggest surprise was when I noticed some Boone’s Farm bottles of wine on the shelf at Fiesta City Liquor! I didn’t know they still made Boone’s Farm wines. When I was in high school you could buy a bottle of Boone’s Farm for .89 cents and now it’s $9.99!

Also to my surprise this week was all the goodies on the counter at the radio station. Every holiday season some of our listeners and sometimes the office girls will bake some goodies and bring them to share with us. It’s wonderful but seems pretty early for our counter to be full of holiday treats. But hey I’m not complaining.
