I usually have a lot on my mind, being in radio I have a number of things going on at the same time. I tend to talk out loud to myself sometimes and people see that as weird, but it helps me compartmentalize things going on in my head.

Lets talk about what has been going on in my head lately. Is it ever going to stop raining? My goodness I feel for the farmers! This past week Luverne and Adrian and most of southern Minnesota and northern Iowa got dumped on again. Some places had 18 inches of rain in a short period of time. That’s crazy. My sump pump has been running often and I have a generator ready to go if the power ever goes out. We used to fight water in our basement all the time and it was money well spent tiling around our house and installing a pump. So, it can stop raining anytime now.

Another thing going on in my mind this time of year is preparing for the county fairs. I cover six county fairs for KLQP radio, we usually set up a booth at each fair and do a lot of broadcasting. I love all the county fairs in our area. I’m a people person so sitting in a booth and visiting with our listeners is something I really like to do. I will be at Big Stone, Yellow Medicine, Chippewa, Stevens, Swift and Lac qui Parle fairs again this year. I enjoy having our listeners tell me what they like about Q-92. We have a wide variety of programs and some of our listeners favorites are the sports broadcasts, the coaches show and the old time polka show. They also tell us they enjoy our fashion, doctor, computer and garden shows. I can’t wait to see everyone at the county fairs.

The other big news is KLQP has a new owner! Her name is Kerri Boyens and she has been around for a few months now. Maynard and I aren’t going anywhere, it was just a great time for Maynard to sell to someone who believes in keeping things local and supporting small town businesses. I have been taking Kerri around and introducing her to our advertisers. Kerri grew up on a farm in Iowa and is actually Maynard’s son-in-law’s sister. She has a passion for supporting things locally. Things will stay the same at the radio station, just a different owner.

Another thing going on in my head is all the community celebrations happening. I try to get to all of them. Last week Canby and Montevdieo celebrated Hat Daze and Fiesta Days, and coming up this week is Riverfest in Dawson. Madison’s Summer Block Party and Dragonfest will follow. Parades, games, and bands it’s all fun. I was at Heritage Days last week just outside of Montevideo. I enjoy looking at old farm machinery. I’m not a farmer but I like history and it’s pretty cool to see how farming was done in years past.
This summer I will also squeeze in some baseball games and the Raymo Cup family golf outing along with a vacation in August. I have a lot going on in my head and that’s okay, because that’s the way I like it. I don’t like to sit still and do nothing.
