My week started out by attending a Donny Osmond concert at the Orpheum Theater in Minneapolis with my wife and spending time with my daughter Brianna and her husband Seth. Donny was Roxie’s teenage crush and we have seen him a number of times in concert. This was his best concert yet, I even liked it. He is my age and I could never dance for 2 hours on stage like he can. He’s in pretty good shape for 66 years old.

Monday I took the day off and we spent time with friends on Pearl Lake outside of Kimball. Jeff and Darla have been our friends for 50 some years. We haven’t seen them in a long time and it was good to catch up. We spent a couple of hours on their pontoon, it was a beautiful day. It’s funny when you’re good friends in high school and college then life happens and you don’t see each other for years and when you get together and it’s like nothing has changed. You pick up where you left off.

Tuesday and Wednesday I spent many hours each day covering state golf at Pebble Creek in Becker. State golf is one of my favorite things to cover. Dawson-Boyd had both boys and girls teams competing, along with individuals from LQPV and Canby. The Blackjack girls were co champions with Fillmore Central and it was so much fun celebrating with the kids and their parents and grandparents. Lindsey Lund was the state class A individual champ!

Alyssa Swedinski placed 3rd individually and I had the chance to interview her and her mom. Her mom is the assistant coach and we had a great interview. Lindsey’s mom Lisa always brings her famous chocolate chip cookies and we all celebrated eating cookies! I did over 20 interviews at state golf and was tired after spending most of the day on the golf course. I was thankful that my son Josh only lives 20 minutes from the golf course and I got to stay at his place and spend some time with him and Kristine. We went out for dinner one night and celebrated Kristine’s birthday.

Thursday and Friday was state baseball in St Cloud! LQPV Eagles took on Cherry High School at Joe Faber Field. It was a nice stadium and it was an awesome following of Eagle fans. We had more fans than other schools did. Bart Hill and I broadcasted from a crowded press box. We spent time visiting with John Millea from the Minnesota High School League. He writes Johns Journal and is very well known around the state. I have always enjoyed my visits with John even though they are short sometimes. He is retiring after the next school year and will be greatly missed.

The Eagles lost both state games, but the experience making it to state and being there is pretty cool. I couldn’t believe all the LQPV fans that were in attendance at state. On the way home Friday from St Cloud I stopped at Heritage Hill outside of Montevideo where they are celebrating Heritage Days. It’s my annual interviews with Becky Miller and Liz Peterson. The tractor club there is made up of some great people. I always enjoy spending time with them.

So you can see that I had a busy week, but a very fun and memorable one.
