I DID IT AGAIN!

Brittany Spears sings a song called, Oops, I Did It Again! Well, this past week I did it again. This is really unbelievable. For the fourth year in a row when I returned home from the state dance tournament I got sick.

I have the greatest time at Target Center broadcasting state dance every year. I look forward to spending two days at the NBA arena to watch the Shadows bring home some hardware. I really don’t get sick very often, but it seems this time of year I often get sick. This is my busiest time of year covering high school sports and not a good time to get really sick. It will last for a few weeks. Usually I get a bad cold and upper respiratory stuff. Two years ago I contracted COVID just before state dance and couldn’t make it.

This year while driving home from state dance I was really tired, but I made my usual stop at Taco Johns in Hutchinson. While, I was ordering my food I started coughing and sneezing. by the time I got home my body ached and I realized that I was getting sick. This can’t be happening again. I was down and out for a couple of days. Wednesday was the worst. I slept in my recliner for two nights. Getting old is rough.

Mitchell Syltie KLQP Intern

Thursday we had a section girls basketball game scheduled and so Mitchell Syltie who is a intern at KLQP radio and has been commentating games with me was called on to go solo for the first time. Mitchell did the play by play of the LQPV and YME playoff game in Granite Falls. He was a little nervous but he did a great job.

No germs please!

If you read a previous blog about me being a germophobic, you know I don’t touch door handles or railings with my bare hands. At Target Center I am so careful not to touch railings, I put my sleeve over my hand. In the restrooms I wash my hands like a doctor would. I know I’m around a lot of people at Target Center, but it still baffles me why I get so sick after state dance.

What was really funny, was the office girls at the radio station told me that I would be getting sick when I returned from state dance. I guess the office girls know what they are talking about. Before next years state dance tournament I will be taking lots of vitamins.
