FUN STUFF

I have some fun stuff to share with you in this weeks Raymo’s Ramblings.

First off I want to thank you for reading Raymo’s Ramblings each week. When I first started blogging I had no idea my blog would be read by so many people. Every week people comment to me about reading it, some are total strangers and it blows my mind. Thank you. Now for some fun stuff and fun facts about my week.

Saturday morning I was in Minneapolis at US Bank Stadium broadcasting the state semi football finals between Minneota and BBE. Not only do we broadcast over the air on 92.1fm but we also broadcast online at klqpfm.com. What is nice about broadcasting online is that we can track how many listeners are tuned in and where they are listening from and what device they are using. It does not say who the listener is, just that they are logged into klqpfm.com and a little blue pin is marked on a map where they are at the time. It’s pretty cool. I have attached a Minnesota map from Saturdays football game. As you can see we had a lot of online listeners from Minnesota, but many more listeners over the air on 92.1fm. We have a good number of people listening all over the United States and world.

Each blue marker is a listener online. This was taken during the Minneota football game with BBE

Fun fact number two. Jimmy Oellien, who works at the Canby Meat Center won the Lutefisk eating contest this past week during Noresfest in Madison. Jimmy dethroned long time Lutefisk champion Jerry Osterass. Jimmy ate about 5 pounds of Lutefisk! Jimmy received a big trophy and gave it away to Ragnar Ronglien who is 4 years old and the youngest Lutefisk eating contestant. Ragner finished two plates at the event. He was in heaven when Jimmy went over to his house afterwards to give him his trophy.

Fun stuff number three. I am not a deer hunter but my two granddaughters Adelyn and Gretta are and they both got their deer this season. Adelyn hunted alone for the first time and got her deer and gutted it by herself. I was very proud of both of them. The Hunted Outdoors Facebook page shared their story and pictures. Pretty cool.

Fun fact number four. Saturday broadcasting the Minneota football game from US Bank Stadium was so much fun. Especially when the team you are cheering for is racking up stats and winning big in a state football playoff game. The Vikings ended up with almost 600 total yards which is incredible! Minneota dominated with 370 yards rushing and 223 yards passing for an incredible 593 total yards of offense and the defense held the high scoring Jaugars offense to just 6 points! I liked what my friend Joe Brown, sports writer for the West Central Tribune in Willmar, had for a headline in the paper. “Minneota Vikings maul BBE Jaguars!” In thirty years of broadcasting high school football I don’t think I have ever seen stats like that in a game, especially a state playoff game.

Fun stuff number five. I drive highway 7 from Madison to the Twin Cities most of the time. I have created a tradition after a Minneota Viking state win in either football or volleyball. On the way home I stop at Taco Johns in Hutchinson to get a burrito and my favorite the potato oles! I snap a selfie and post on my social media sites and for some reason it resonates with people. I hadn’t eaten since about 5am that morning because I’d left for the cities early and it was now about 4pm when I arrived at Taco John’s. The burrito didn’t stand a chance and the potato oles were amazing. So it was a great meal and I was a happy guy driving back to Madison.

This was some of the fun stuff I experienced this past week. I get to go back to US Bank Stadium this coming Friday for the state Class A Football Championship game. It’s going to be fun and I will be looking forward to another burrito and some more potato oles next Friday afternoon in Hutchinson.
