I didn’t get a chance to blog about the Lac qui Parle County fair last weekend because I was completely exhausted when I got home Sunday evening. I have recovered and ready to talk about my experience at the greatest county fair in Minnesota.
My experience at the LQP County Fair each year is from a work standpoint. I am on the clock working for the radio station which is okay because I still get to enjoy the fair. Wednesday is always set up the booth day. It takes about 20 minutes to set up our Q-92 booth which is always located in the East Commercial Building. We put up two banners, a table and a registration box. Thursday always starts out by broadcasting the Garden Show with Duane Hastad from the Heather Nursery booth. They do a fantastic job decorating their booth outside with mums, trees and flowers. Thursday, I always get to meet some of the food vendors that advertise with us, I look forward to seeing Joe with the Big Cheeseburger stand, my good friend John Dugan from Texas Best BBQ, along with Tammy at the malt stand and Hollie, Lynn and DeeAnn with the wine booth.

Thursday afternoon I spend most of my time in the Event Center watching the entertainment. Mollie B and her band were amazing, such talent. I asked for a selfie with her and she was so kind to do so. Then the LQP Senior Volunteers of the Year were announced, Bob Glomstad and Joyce West. I had a nice interview on the radio with both of them. Bob is my high school principal and a good friend, Joyce was a little nervous to talk to me on the radio but she did a nice job. After the afternoon events, I spent the rest of the day in our booth visiting with lots of people.

Friday, I only could spend a few hours at the fair, but still got to eat some of my favorite fair food. The beef commercial at the Faith Church stand, beef brisket from Texas Best BBQ, Egg rolls underneath the grandstand and the honeyberry sundae from Lynn just to name a few. I had the football game to go to so I had to leave the fairgrounds around 3pm.

Saturday is my biggest day at the fair. I think I spent 14 hours there on Saturday. I was excited because a large part of my family was there on Saturday. It is fun to watch the grandchildren go on rides and the smiles on their faces. We took a family selfie and it turned out really good. My sister Susan was home for a class reunion and my cousin Shelia and her daughter Ashley from Iowa came up as well. Brandon and his family from Montevideo always come over for the fair. My daughter Brianna and her husband Seth drove in from the cities. We all went to watch the Bruce Crevier basketball family show in the Event Center Saturday afternoon and some of my family members were part of the show.

At 9:30 I walked over to watch Hairball. They didn’t disappoint! What a great show of 80’s rock. The crowd was estimated at around 3000 people. So much fun. Sunday morning we were going to meet my family at the VFW Pancake House for breakfast, but they were extremely busy, so we went to DeToys for breakfast. I then spent the rest of Sunday working in the fair booth visiting with our listeners. It is always nice to hear people say they listen to our radio station and then they tell me what they like about it. It makes me feel good.
Hats off to the LQP Fair board members for maybe the best county fair ever. The food, the rodeo, fireworks and all the entertainment they bring in, plus all their time and hard work put into the fair. Thank you. Picture slideshow below
