My main job at the radio station is sales. I spend a lot of time in different communities in our coverage area and Canby is one of them. This past week I was in Canby a number of times and when I was leaving the other day I thought what a wonderful community Canby is.
I attend the Canby Chamber meetings and I must say Canby has a good business community. This past Saturday they had a first ever “Canbyland” event. Shoppers went business to business and shopped and collected colors, much like playing the board game Candyland. It was a great idea and went very well. Canby has some strong businesses and they give back to their community. I think PK Egans has put Canby on the map with it’s pizza. It’s my favorite pizza place.

I enjoy going to Canby High School to cover events. A couple of weeks ago I blogged about the Wheelchair Basketball fundraiser for the SMSU Wheelchair Basketball Team. The Canby Rotary Club and the Canby and Marshall Lions Clubs sponsored the event. It was an amazing evening. I made some new friends and enjoyed the company of everyone.

I broadcasted the Lancer baseball game with Dawson/Boyd on Thursday and was warmly greeted and welcomed by the coaching staff and parents and the guys working in the press box. Every time I do a basketball game in the Canby gym I am treated like family, from the concession people to my friend Delon who does the public address announcing and introduces me to the crowd before tipoff.

This past Friday, ag teacher John Dessonville asked me to come over and cover the FFA petting zoo and and also the FFA drive your tractors to school day. I have covered this event before and enjoy it, even though I embarrassed myself while interviewing Madison Peterson I asked her about her goat and she told me that’s a sheep! We both had a good laugh. Also Friday was the first Food Wagon Friday of the summer season at Jim’s Market with Brian McKeen doing the grilling. This week the proceeds went to the Canby Area Arts Council who is doing a fantastic job promoting the arts in the Canby Area. I am looking forward to sitting in my lawn chair at Central Park for Music on Mondays this summer.

From the Canby Theater, to Del Clark Lake, to the bakery, a wonderful motel, bowling alley, golf course, pool, parks and a strong agriculture community Canby is a great place to live and visit. Such wonderful people!
