I LOVE SNOW AND WINTER

Saturday morning Madison received about 6 inches of snow, so I decided to walk to work. It’s about 5 blocks from my house to the radio station. I have always loved winter and snowstorms and snow. It doesn’t bother me like most people.

My grandma Raymo

I think I received my love for winter from my grandmother, Myrna Raymo. When I was young and went to their farm just outside of New Richland, Minnesota we would always play outside in the winter. Grandma would come out with the dogs and we would jump on the large piles of snow grandpa would pile up with the tractor. I can still hear grandma saying the snow is so pretty. I can see her smiling as my brothers and sisters would play in the snow. I think that is where my love for winter started. Thank you grandma.

I know most, if not all of my family and friends disagree with me about winter. That’s okay. Winter is a season that is often associated with cold, dark, and dreary days and I understand that. However, for me, it is a season that is eagerly awaited all year round.

For starters, winter is the time of year that is filled with many holidays. From Christmas to New Year’s Eve and Valentine’s Day, there are plenty of occasions to celebrate with family and friends. The festive spirit of winter is contagious, and it brings a sense of warmth and joy to those who embrace it.

Another reason why I enjoy winter is the opportunity to participate in outdoor activities that are unique to the season. I like to go for short walks in the winter. When I was younger I loved playing broomball at the hockey rink and sledding on the local hills.

The winter season also has a certain appeal that is unique to it. The sight of freshly fallen snow, icicles hanging from tree branches, and the crisp air of the morning all create a picturesque scene. The winter season’s beauty can be appreciated in a way that is distinct from other seasons.

Winter also has its share of tasty foods, from piping hot cocoa to warm soups and stews. The cold weather also presents an opportunity to indulge in comfort foods such as mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, and casseroles. Roxie gets the crock pot out and she creates some great meals in the crockpot in the winter

Some of my family and friends, but very few of them have different preferences and reasons why they like winter, but the festive spirit, unique outdoor activities, the beauty of the fresh fallen snow and delicious foods are some common factors. These are just a few reasons why winter is my favorite season and always will be. I have my grandma to thank for that.

I copied some winter pictures from my friends on Facebook. Enjoy the slideshow. Feel free to make comments about how you hate winter and how crazy I am. I can take it!

  1. We will agree disagree on this issue. I despise winter and everything that comes with it. The sight of melting snow and the arrival of all things green is the most beautiful thing in the world!
