This will be a very busy week for me. The Section Tournaments begin, and I love it!!
Monday I will be at Lac qui Parle Valley broadcasting volleyball as the Eagles host the Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks. I get pretty excited when the Eagles and Blackjacks play each other because I don’t have to study the rosters and it’s easy for me to broadcast their games because I know them so well. I don’t even have to look down at my roster to see who # 5 is or #12. Since the schools and communites are so close to each other the kids and parents know each other really well and so it makes it a fun rival game for all the sports.

Tuesday, I get to broadcast LQPV and Dawson-Boyd again, but this time in football. Section 5A football playoffs begin, and the Eagles and Blackjacks will get after it at RB Clay Field, Tuesday night at 7. I really like broadcasting from their press box. It’s big and warm. We have a great view of the field and can see all the cars that sit up above the field. There’s always a great crowd in Dawson for football. Section football playoffs are different this year. The coaches voted and seeded the teams. The bottom two teams don’t make the playoffs and the top two seeded teams get first round byes. I like that a lot. I’ve never been in favor of every team making the playoffs. This way they #1 seed won’t play the #8 seed. Thanks to whoever came up with the new format.

Wednesday is a non sports day for me and I have some family things to take care of.

Thursday is Section Cross Country in Luverne. I like the Luverne set up for cross country. I have been there many times over the years. It is an exciting time for runners to try and make it to state. The Canby-Minneota girls have a good chance of going to state as a team as well as a good number of runners from the Q-92 listening area. For once the weather looks great. I remember some section meets where we had snow on the ground and it was very cold. Also on Thursday DB-LQPV girls tennis doubles team of Hannah Oie and Kayla Jahn will compete at state tennis and I will be giving some updates on the radio.

Friday it’s back to section volleyball. I will be in Canby as the Lancers will host the winner of LQPV and Dawson-Boyd match from Monday. Canby has maybe it’s best volleyball team ever and looking to make a deep run into the playoffs. Four teams really stand out in Section 3A. Minneota, RTR, Maccray and Canby. But anybody can beat anybody on a given night. It’s going to be a really intense and fun volleyball tournament, and it all ends at SMSU.

Saturday, we have more section football action. BOLD and Minneota will be hosting afternoon games at 3pm. I don’t know if anyone can stop the defending state champions, the Minnetoa Vikings. They have rolled through their regular season by scoring an average of 61 points per game. Football is my favorite sport to broadcast and I can’t wait for section football to start. The championship game is at SMSU on Friday November 1st.
So, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week! I hope I have a voice left by Saturday. It’s going to be a fun week! Listen to all the action on KLQP!
