WHY DO I LIKE THE SWIFT COUNTY FAIR SO MUCH?

I’ve been at the Swift County Fair in Appleton since Wednesday.  I enjoy each and every county fair I attend, but for some reason the Swift County Fair is special. As I was driving home from the fair the other night, I found myself wondering why I like the Swift County Fair so much. It’s just fun and friendly.

It seems like it’s genuinely a community and county get together.  Working for the radio station I meet so many people at fairs. I love talking to people. I guess I’m just a people person.  At Swift it seems everyone knows everyone and I see people smiling and laughing and enjoying themselves. It’s really hard to put into words how I feel about the fair in Appleton.

Each year I get asked to be a judge for the pie baking contest. I always say yes! Everyone is so friendly the workers, the pie winners and even Larry Olson and his band were having so much fun playing polkas. It’s just a great atmosphere in the Chuck Brown Building on Friday afternoons. I also do many interviews on the radio at the fair. The Appleton Area Health employees, Miss Appleton royalty, the pie winners and some of our fine advertisers on Q-92. We have so much fun.

KLQP radio has a booth in the Commercial Building and I love visiting with all the people that stop by to say hi. There are so many comments from our listeners about what they like about the radio station. A common comment is “I listen to you guys all day!”

Hats off to the Swift County Fair Board for the incredible job they do. My favorite event at the fair is the Ribfest on Saturday afternoon. Lots of people and lots of ribs! I also enjoy all the entertainment they bring in. A pleasant surprise was Neal McCoy came out on stage Saturday afternoon for his sound check and entertained the crowd in the Chuck Brown building.  He actually sang a number of songs and cracked jokes. It was so much fun listening to him.

Attending fairs is all about watching people enjoy themselves, being kind to one another and families doing things together. It’s a nice break from what is going on in the world. Now onto the LQP County fair.
