COOL!

If you know me well, you know that I do not like hot weather. I don’t do well when it is really hot.

This past week the temperatures were in the 90’s and the heat index into the 100’s on a few days. When I saw the forecast the week before I was not happy because I had a couple events that I needed to be at and knew I was going to be outside in the heat for long periods of time. I had heat stroke a number of years ago that landed me in the hospital. I was lucky to be alive. The doctor told my wife that if she hadn’t brought me into the hospital when she did that I might have been a Cory Stringer. Cory Stringer was a Minnesota Viking football player that died because of heat stroke during training camp at Minnesota Mankato on a very hot day. Ever since my heat stroke incident I have never been the same when it comes to being out in the heat.

This week I golfed in the Appleton Area Health golf tournament and I broadcasted a few playoff baseball games. I also worked at our Q-92 booth at the Chippewa County Fair. I figured it was going to be a very hot week for all my events, but I was wrong.

Tuesday I was in Montevideo broadcasting the Dawson Jr Legion playoff game. The press box had a nice breeze blowing through it so it wasn’t really that bad. I survived.

Thursday the KLQP radio team participated in the Appleton Area Health golf tournament. The forecast had called for temps in the 90’s with high dewpoints. That really didn’t materialize. The morning was actually very pleasant and the afternoon was okay. I had a very fun day golfing with my friends. I survived Thursday.

Friday I was at the Chippewa County Fair and I lucked out, the Q-92 booth was in the air conditioned fair office building! So I didn’t have to sit in the heat. I got to chat with many of our listeners that wanted to get out of the heat and come into the cool building. I survived Friday

Saturday I was at Madison Memorial Baseball Field broadcasting the Dawson Jr Legion game with Montevideo. It was very hot outside with dewpoints in the 70’s! But, thanks to the Madison Baseball Association the new press box has air conditioning! It was very cool in the press box Saturday and I loved it.

Saturday evening and Sunday I was back at the fair sitting in my air conditioned fair booth. I loved that as well. So I didn’t even have to be out in the hot weather last week. Bring on winter temps please.
