One of my favorite things to do at county fairs is interviewing people on the radio. I get people from all walks of life and I am so interested in what they are doing. Some interviews go great and then some not so great. I have learned many things about doing interviews with people.

At the Swift County Fair I had a lot of fun interviewing Nathan Anderson. Nathan is a Lac qui Parle Valley graduate and is teaching Ag at Watertown/Mayer. Nathan has become an internet sensation, a social media influencer. Nathan’s social media posts are educational and humorous. On Tic Toc he has over 250,000 followers. A couple of his short videos have over 8 million views! When Nathan goes to the FFA National Convention or any Ag Convention he gets stopped often for a picture and autograph. Nathan is doing great things as a Ag teacher.

Another fun interview was with Jean Marie Golden and Josie Hauck from Appleton Area Health. We were in our Q-92 fair booth and I could tell they were a bit nervous about talking on the radio. I assured them it will be okay. Now, I don’t know Jean and Josie very well, I know who they are and that’s about it. Seconds before we were going to go on live, Josie informed me that she roomed with my daughter Brianna at Moorhead State. I had forgotten about that and it took me by surprise but now I remembered Josie. As we got on the air I told that story to the listening audience but Josie wouldn’t tell any stories about my daughter at college. That made us all laugh.

We talked about the services Appleton Area Health offers and did our interview. When we were off the air I took a selfie with both of them and then I asked if I could get a picture with just Josie so I could send it to my daughter. We all still had our headsets on and Jean Marie was trying to leave the picture but she got tangled up in all the chords that were behind us. She almost lost her balance and fell down. Josie was grabbing her while I was trying to take a picture. It was a good laugh, then we laughed harder when I was showing them the pictures I took. I posted the pictures on social media and their received some great responses from friends and family

I did many interviews at the Swift County Fair. Some of our fine advertisers, like Appleton Power Equipment, Hardware and Floral with Jill Swenson. Jill hooked me up with a boutonniere she was giving to all the men. Janelle Welling with Hughes Real Estate and Auction Services, Wes Anderson from WD Tours and AAH to name a few. I enjoy getting to know them and hearing how their business works. Another interview every year at the fair is with the Miss Appleton royalty. The girls are always so excited to talk about their community of Appleton. I can’t forget my interviews with the pie baking winners every year.
I just like talking with people and getting to know them and I get to do that on the radio so everyone can get to know them too.
