I had quite the experiences this past week interviewing state participants in golf and track.

I just finished interviewing Kara Rangaard of the Canby Lancers and Coach Richter at the Canby golf course and got in my car to drive back to Madison and thought to myself I should drive into Canby and pick up some amazing bakery rolls from Kornerstone Cravings and Bakery and bring them back to the studio. So that’s what I did. When I entered the bakery I saw Jake Wagner standing in line. Jake was a great high school golfer for Canby and now golfs at Minnesota State Mankato. Jake smiled and he already knew that I’d been at the Canby golf course interviewing Kara. How did he know that? He told me that Coach Richter just sent him a picture of me interviewing Kara. I thought that was pretty cool.

That same day I went to the Dawson golf course to interview the three Blackjack golfers going to state. Allysa Swedzinski, Lindsey Lund and Carson Stratmoen. I had a nice visit and interview with them. I had interviewed Allysa and Lindsey last year for state golf. They are very good golfers and love the sport and you can see they are very passionate about golf. They both made all-state this year. Carson Stratmoen is only an 8th grader and he said in his interview this is all new to him and he is nervously excited to golf at Pebble Creek.

Carson Besonen of the LQPV Eagles is no stranger to state golf. This is his third trip to Pebble Creek. Carson went as an 8th grader and is very familiar with the golf course in Becker. The time he puts into the sport is amazing. Carson made all-state this year and is looking to medal at state. When I interview Carson it always feels like I’m talking to a professional golfer on the PGA Tour. He knows the golf language.

Earlier in the week I drove to LQPV High School to visit with Brayson Boike. Brayson went to the state track meet in three events. Brayson is only a sophomore and is 6’7. He is quite the athlete. Brayson told me he is on the Adidas AAU team and travels the country on the weekends playing with some of the best high school basketball players in the country. So he is a busy guy. I enjoy talking with Brayson. He did medal at state in all three events.

Friday after broadcasting Food Wagon Friday at Jims Market in Canby I drove back to Madison and met the LQPV girls golf team and coaches at the Madison golf course after practice. For the 7th year in a row the girls golf team is participating at the state tournament as a team. It is always fun interviewing the team. Something funny always happens. Some of the girls are also Shadows and have won state championships in dance. So before I started the interview I asked them if they would like to do a chant like the dance team does. Bella said the golf team doesn’t have one. Kate Ulstad and Molly Halvorson said they have one and those two did a cute little chant for me. You can hear it at the end of our interview. After the interview Grace Vacek asked me if I would like to go to the Dairy Queen with them. So, the coaches and girls and I went to the DQ for some treats.

Tuesday and Wednesday I will be in Becker for state golf and I’m looking forward to covering these state golfers, not only are they all outstanding golfers but they are really good kids. It’s fun to be around them.
